ALERT and Gordon-CenSSIS Scholars

ALERT and Gordon-CenSSIS Scholar Programs are Now Accepting Applications!

The ALERT and Gordon-CenSSIS Scholars Program is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 Program!

The ALERT and Gordon-CenSSIS Scholars Program is designed to provide freshmen engineering students the opportunity to get involved in ALERT and Gordon-CenSSIS research projects, K-12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) outreach programs, and professional development training and seminars, such as Leadership Skills, Research Ethics, and Presentation and Poster Building Skills.

The program dates are: October, 2014 – April, 2015.

Selected ALERT and Gordon-CenSSIS Scholars are expected to complete the following program requirements:

  • 20+ Hours of Research per Semester (on average, most students do research for 5-8 hours per week).
  • 5+ Hours of K-12 STEM Outreach per Semester (both one-time, and on-going programs are available).
  • Attend and Participate in Program Meeting, Seminars and Field Trips.
  • Enroll in the High Tech Tools and Toys Section of GE 1111 for the Fall, 2014 or Spring, 2015 Semester.
  • Give a Final Research Presentation at the end of the program in late-April, early-May.

Bookstore Voucher: All ALERT and Gordon-CenSSIS Scholars who complete the program requirements will receive a NU Bookstore Voucher for $1,000 at the end of the program.

Applications are due Tuesday, September 30th, by 5:00pm, and should be submitted to Melanie Smith via email at m.smith@neu.edu, or fax at 617-373-8627, or dropped off at 302 Stearns Center, Northeastern University.

All applications must include a completed Application Form (linked below).

As stated in the application form, applicants must include a 1/2 page Statement of Interest with their application.

Gordon Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems (Gordon-CenSSIS), a Graduated National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center.
